Originally from South Africa, I lived there for my early education and, after initially
completing a Secretarial Diploma, I continued onto university to gain a Bachelor's Degree in English and Political Science, following which I moved to the UK. I worked in numerous secretarial roles before moving into investment banking, for Merrill Lynch, primarily working in finance and administrative roles. I left this role to become a military wife and raise my young family through a variety of postings.
After becoming a parent, I completed an NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and have been working as a Teaching Assistance for the past 4 years in a primary school. In addition to this, I served on the Board of Trustees as Treasurer and Administrator for a children's nursery for 3 years, making use of my strong organisational skills and extensive administrative experience.
I have two sons aged thirteen and ten. Both children have additional needs, one with sensory processing issues and the other diagnosed with ASD. I have spent the past 10 years working through various agencies to gain diagnoses and to understand and adopt tools and techniques to ensure my boys achieve the best they possibly can. Whilst
trying to navigate the challenges that raising children with additional needs brings, I have found organisations such as this invaluable and I hope to be able to assist other families facing similar challenges.
